ROLE PURPOSE: GEOTECHNICAL AND HYDROGEOLOGY SUPERINTENDENT

The Superintendent Geotechnical Geology and Hydrogeology for Siguiri will implement CAR approved Geotechnical processes required to support mining to plan within Environmental and Safety standards, complying with applicable local legislation. He will propose cost effective Hydrogeology solutions that will support and optimize the current short-term mining plan and will implement the Hydrogeology processes required to support mining to plan within Environmental and Safety standards, complying with applicable local legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• A bachelor's degree qualification in Geotechnical Geology or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent
• Minimum 8 years experience in open pit Geotechnical Geology and Hydrogeology with demonstrated skill in implementing open pit slope management practices, performing slope stability analysis, determining geotechnical domains and slope design parameters, hydrogeological modelling, designing and implementing active dewatering systems for mining operations

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND OUTPUTS

In fulfilling this role, the following general accountabilities will apply:

• Accountable for the safety and health of all subordinates
• Develop and implement schedules that will provide subordinates with competency training on SAG and Geotechnical & Hydrogeology section policies and SOP's
• Coach subordinates on SHE best practices
• Develop and implement annual Safety, Health and Environmental plans for the section. These plans must include PTO's, Planned Inspections, continuous improvement initiatives as well as actions to close out SHE deficiencies from previous audits and inspections.
• Perform risk assessments using the AGA Risk Matrix prior to starting new tasks or starting work in new areas and put in place specific risk mitigating plans prior to commencing tasks.
• Review SOP a minimum of annually and draft updates, compliant to SAG policies and procedures as well as AGA geotechnical guidelines and policies, for Manager's review and approval.
• Monitor the activities of subordinates and contractors working for the Geotechnical & Hydrogeology Section on a daily basis. Immediately implement actions to correct unsafe conditions, threats to the environment, or to maintain compliance to AGA, SAG policies and procedures.
• Plan Geotechnical work to support the mine budget and monthly mining schedules
• Plan Hydrogeology work to support the mine budget and monthly production plans
• Plan groundwater monitoring programmes (piezometric levels and groundwater quality) as required to meet production targets and comply with legislation and AGA standards
• Plan water management projects including water balances, storm water control, water quality risk assessments as required to meet production targets and comply with legislation and AGA standards.
• Put in place the necessary weekly, monthly and annual schedules and determine the necessary resources to support the section plan
• Monitor the efficiency of section and contractor resources weekly and develop actions to correct poor performance
• Monitor Geotechnical data collection and monitoring activities and implement corrective actions to maintain to the appropriate standards and quantity.
• Put in place controls to keep Geotechnical data safely stored for future reference
• Complete sufficient Geotechnical investigations and analyses to derive geotechnical design parameters for pits to meet the annual Mine Planning schedule
• Provide recommendations and review of modifications to existing mine designs in a timely manor so as to minimize disruption to the mining schedule
• Provide recommendations and review of new mine designs as per the Mine Planning work schedule.
• Geotechnical Reporting must be completed in a timely manner consistent with the requirements of the GCMP.
• Design, implement and monitor active dewatering systems to maintain dewatering 6 months ahead of mining faces
• Develop and Implement training and development plans for subordinates
• Develop annual expensed and capital budgets for the section according to the mine's business planning schedule
• Monitor compliance to budget weekly and develop action plans to correct non-compliance to budgeted spenD
• Compliance will include, but not be limited to, the following main areas;
• Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS 18001)
• International Organization for Standardization (ISO14001)
• The Guinea Mining Code
• AGA policies
• SAG Mining Departmental Policies and standards
• SAMREC and JORC codes
• AGA Values

REMUNERATION:

The successful candidate will be appointed on a two (2) year expatriate contract, which may be renewed, with regular leave breaks. The successful candidate would be offered a US dollar-based salary.
